Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2015 03:15:33 +0000
The Primary Produce Safety (Egg) Regulations 2014 (Egg Scheme) will commence on 1 February 2015 (For further information www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/biosecurity/product-integrity/food-safety/eggs). This new legislation has been developed to enable the requirements of Standard 4.2.5: Primary Production and Processing Standard for Eggs and Egg Products of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to apply to primary production activities in Tasmania. The Egg Scheme ensures that appropriate food safety systems and traceability are in place whilst not over-regulating small commercial producers.
Small commercial egg producers (producing less than 20 dozen eggs per week) will not be required to hold an accreditation, have an annual food safety audit nor pay any associated fees. However, they will be required to formally notify and register their activity with Biosecurity Tasmania.
They must also comply with the Food Standards Code requirements in respect to commercial egg production, including the requirement to have a Food Safety Management Statement and to stamp their eggs.
To assist small commercial egg producers in meeting their obligations under the Egg Scheme, Biosecurity Tasmania has developed the attached information package. The package provides the Notification Form, a basic Food Safety Management Statement and advice on what you need to do to obtain a free hand held stamp kit.
